Information in your local area
Information is one of the biggest barriers to disabled people getting active. There are organisations that provide directories and information services about what is available in different areas. We have provided some links below to resource directories and activity lists.
Your local Active Partnerships
Go to the Active Partnerships website and search for your local Active Partnership using the map. Click on the link to your local Active Partnership and look for the club finder or sports directory. You can then search for the activity or sport that you are looking for.
Your local Leisure Trust
Go to the Community Leisure UK website and click on ‘Our Members’ to find your local Leisure Trust. You should be able to find information on different physical activity and sport sessions near to you.
Better Leisure Centres
Affordable opportunities to get active including gyms, swimming pools and exercise classes.
Your local authority may hold information on their website about leisure opportunities near you.
Activity Alliance events
Go to Activity Alliance webpages for local sporting events and training related to disability sport.
Disability Action Alliance
The Disability Action Alliance has created a resource page which provides links to information for physical activity and sport providers, who want to encourage more disabled customers and for disabled people who want to take part in physical activity. These links have been collated by Disability Action Alliance members which we hope you find useful.
Particular sports in your area at Parasport
If you are interested in a particular sport or want to find out what sports you can take part in, you can visit the Parasport website which will help you find clubs and coaches in your area.
Your local Disabled Peoples User Led Organisation (DPULO)
Contact the General Enquiries helpline at Disability Rights UK to find out organisations in your area.
Services available to disabled children and their families
Go to SENDirect for information on activities available to your disabled child and the Local Offer. A range of providers are on the directory and you can search according to what you are looking for or by area.
Small community based services
Small Good Stuff powered by Community Catalysts links people, organisations or groups who offer support, care or services to people in their local community on a very small scale with people who need care or support to live their life.
